If you haven’t heard by now, Pantone has made history by naming not one, but two colors of the year for 2016: Rose Quartz and Serenity. One is a soft, light pink and the other is a baby blue.
These were supposedly two of the hottest color trends that we saw in 2016. And while we’re not exactly in love with these two colors that remind us of a baby gender reveal party, a team of experts chose these colors. So who are these color experts? For starters, they work at the Pantone Color Institute providing color trend forecasting and color brand development. Each year, the Pantone Color Institute releases its Color of the Year, chosen by a panel of their color team.
Rose Quartz and Serenity are meant to bring calm and relaxation, and Pantone suggests pairing them with other mid-tones, such as grays, muted greens, and rich browns. Last year’s color of the year was Marsala, and previous colors include: Radiant Orchid, Emerald, Tangerine Tango, Honeysuckle, and Turquoise. Looking back at these Pantone predicted colors of the year, you’ll notice that Pantone failed to predict the mint green trend that became HUGE several years ago. So it just goes to show that these color experts don’t know everything, and if you like a color, go with it.
Pantone will announce next year’s color any day now. What color do you think they will choose for 2017?
